Hi, my wife Sally and I are First Steps Outreach Ministries, Inc. and we have been missionaries to Guatemala for 30 years. First Steps works with poor children and indigenous teens and adults from rural areas of Guatemala.
One of our areas of outreach is having worked for 25 years in a rural village called Peje Armado. This village is a mixture of Mayan and Latin poor. For the last 25 years we have worked to improve the physical, mental and spiritual life of the little over 1000 people that live there. We encourage them in personal relationships and in corporate community.
Currently we are seeking funds to build a water tower that will send water to each of their homes. They were getting water from a polluted stream 5-7 kilometers from many of their homes. We have dug a pure water well and installed a temporary hand pump. We hope to raise the funds to put in the water tower which will allow them to have pure water available all the time!
My favorite thing is going into the fields with the men and teen boys and building relationships with them and discussing what they want to see in their futures. Sally and her Guatemalan friend Glendy have a women’s group twice a month focused on building relationships with each other and with their neighbors.
This water project has been a huge blessing to the community and will help improve their health and living for years to come.
Next time you take a sip of cool, fresh, pure water remember that there are thousands of people who do not have that opportunity but you can help that change! This one Water Tower will provide fresh, pure water to over 1000 people!!
We promise every dime we receive will go straight into this water tower. We have already done the work on our own to dig the well, which we were told was impossible in the area due to rocky ground. We reached water in record time and it is purer then most bottled water! So now we just need your help to complete the tower so that the water can be run to the houses in the community.
