In January 2022, we visited Tambuzi in Kenya, however this time our visit wasn’t purely business and rooses. In recognition of Climate justice for all, we wanted to understand the most pressing needs of the employees of Tambuzi and what came to light was their need for water.
Tambuzi has been operating in Burguret for over 25 years. In that time, they have seen a change in the predictability of rainfall. The overall annual amount has not changed (although of course there are dry years) but the manner with which it falls has become far more difficult to rely on. Tambuzi as a farm has tackled this challenge by increasing their storage both in the flood flow of the river in their dams and capturing the water from their greenhouses.
However, the challenge is also a big one for their employees. They need to find ways to store water when it comes so that they can be less dependent on the increasingly overused rivers. As Tambuzi is further off the beaten track and many of the Tambuzi employees live in further rural areas, it isn’t possible to get them connected to the municipal water schemes.
Together with the Tambuzi Share Value Committee we came up with the concept of providing water tanks and the installation - we need to ensure these are plumbed in with gutters to catch rainwater, downpipes and taps to be able use the water.
Our goal is to buy and install 250 water tanks for the staff of Tambuzi, so far together with Tambuzi and The Dutch Flower Group Foundation we have donated 50 water tanks.
Can you help us with the other 200? If your company can donate €170 this covers a whole tank and installation, and we can add your logo to the tank, however if you wish to donate a smaller amount to our overall project please note this will help massively too.
