Water Protectors Need Your Help

Tax deductible

In the early morning of June 7th, hundreds of water protectors from around the country came together to occupy and blockade access to a pump station for the Line 3 pipeline in Hubbard County, Minnesota. Indigenous folx have been fighting the pipeline in Northern Minnesota for years now because of its threat to the land, water, and climate. You can learn more about the Line 3 pipeline in the video below by Winona LaDuke, a renowned speaker, writer, environmentalist, and political activist.

The direct action resulted in some two hundred arrests of water protectors who were there to defend Anishinaabe treaty rights and the water and land under threat from the construction of the Line 3 pipeline. The pump station was occupied into the night while other activists locked themselves to a boat barricading the access road for nearly 36 hours. The action was a resounding success, disrupting the construction of the pipeline for two days and receiving coverage from a broad range of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Democracy Now! You can watch an overview of the action here.

Now, some of these water protectors need your help. The state of Minnesota is bringing criminal charges against those who took action on June 7th to stand up for Indigenous rights and the water. We are trying to raise $30k to pay for legal fees and court-related travel expenses. Extra money raised after all legal expenses are paid will go directly to Indigenous folx on the frontlines who are continuing this fight against the illegal Line 3 pipeline.
