Lokahi Water Polo Club is a smaller, close-knit club with the unique twist of practicing exclusively in the ocean. The name Lokahi stems from the Hawaiian word for "Unity in Diversity." Lokahi WPC players, coaches, and families come from different walks of life, but the sport brings us together. Our differences make each of us stand out, but when we work together and support each other, we become truly great. While our club competes and performs at a high level, becoming a good player takes a backseat to becoming a better person. Becoming a skilled player WILL develop once the foundation of character is set.
Lokahi WPC was formed in December 2020 during the height of the pandemic; Coach Ray was the head coach of boys' water polo at Mid-Pacific Institute. When everything shut down, there weren't any pools in which to play water polo. Coach Ray realized that the ocean was always open, and the idea of Lokahi started to take shape. Initially starting with alumni from various schools in Hawaii who had stayed home from college, Lokahi branched out with a keiki polo splashball program, and since then has been steadily developing players starting at age 5.
In July, Lokahi coaches, players, and families will travel to Southern California to participate in USA Water Polo's Junior Olympics, the largest youth National Tournament in the U.S. In order to offset the cost of travel and tournament fees, we are seeking donations and sponsorships for our upcoming Typhoon in the Lagoon tournament at Wai Kai Lagoon in Ewa Beach on Monday, May 26. We hope that your donation and/or sponsorships comes from a sense of community pride. As hosts of Typhoon in the Lagoon, Lokahi strives to impart the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play to our young players. Team members embody these values to become better players but more importantly better people. Your support will be proudly worn and advertised by participants.
