Water for Jersey Girls Dairy

Another year...another lesson learned in surviving as a small scale local food producer!
Just before Christmas, our farm well pump died and burnt up 500' of three ply wire.
It was below zero outside and we had to run water from the house in a continuous stream to keep it from freezing.
Needless to say, we had to call in the big guns and fix this before winter really got started and we could not even access the site, as it is up on the hill.
I have seen other farmers do this in times of "no other option" and have always thought how sad it was that such a proud people (farmers) would be forced to resort to this.
Also thought I would never want to be put in that situation and have been in tight places many times and dug myself out (many times through the amazing generosity and support of farm patrons/fans).
This, however, is the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's (in this case bovine's) back" and my lesson of "never say never" in farming!
In short, we could use help with this unexpected expense that the farm cannot carry on top of feeding the girls through the winter, which was already quite a burden.
Thanks for your support, all the girls here at Jersey Girls Dairy
