Hi everyone,
I’m the creator of the short film "WATCHING".
'WATCHING" is a short film created during my postgraduate film studies in Ireland, and inspired by my lived experience as a Taiwanese migrant worker and an outsider navigating identity, belonging, and silence.
The film explores how a person’s body and identity can be controlled by systems, expectations, and power structures especially for those who come from elsewhere, speak another language, or don’t fully “belong.” Although the characters in the film are fictional, the emotions within it fear, survival, invisibility, and resilience come from a very real place.
Production has now been completed. The next step is to bring the film to audiences through international festivals, including Berlinale, Aesthetica, Galway Film Fleadh, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, and other platforms dedicated to human rights, migrant voices, and emerging filmmakers.
However, festival submissions, subtitles, mastering the film into a DCP format, and screening application fees come with significant costs. As a student and independent filmmaker living abroad, covering these expenses alone is very difficult.
This fundraiser exists to help the film take its next step not just for visibility, but so stories like this can exist in cultural and public conversations.
Your support no matter the amount helps bring this film to the world.
