NO LEACHATE - Keep our Water Safe!

If you drink water. . .if you bath in water. . . if you swim or boat on water. . . you should be concerned. We need your help - ANY donation amount will help!!!
Concerned citizens are seeking to stop the introduction of toxins and carcinogens into Butternut Creek, Lake Nottely and to the greater North Georgia aquifer. In April of 2019 a NO BID, NO CONTRACT deal was struck between Steve Gooch (our State Senator) and City of Blairsville Mayor Conley to haul Leachate, the waste water from Eagle Point Landfill in Forsyth County to The Blairsville Wastewater Treatment plant for processing.
There is currently no testing taking place to determine what is present in the water. Landfill Leachate can contain Asbestos, Heavy Metals, Herbicides, Pesticide, PFAS (plastics residue) and any number of toxic chemicals. The water treatment plant can only treat for organic/residential contaminants (think e-coli). We don’t know what is in the Leachate and the water plant can’t treat most of the really nasty stuff.
Currently the City is accepting somewhere between 11,000 and 20,000 gallons PER DAY. This is being trucked across twisty, windy mountain roads in tanker trucks.
PLAN OF ACTION
Funds will support legal representation to:
1. Demand Priority Pollutants Testing to determine what is actually in the water. This testing is done on the incoming Leachate being trucked from the Landfill. A Priority Pollutants test will test for the toxic chemicals, NOT just e-coli and household contaminants.
2. Seek to stop the Dumping of Leachate into Butternut Creek and Lake Nottely.
3. Elevate this problem to obtain a state-wide policy to manage toxic Leachate.
