Laura Wassink-Erkeneff’s Home Left in Ruins on Thanksgiving Day from Devastating House Fire
While most were enjoying the festivities of Thanksgiving, we have learned late afternoon 11/26/15 (PST), our much loved CSU Chico, Delta Zeta Sister, Laura Wassink-Erkeneff thought she was doing the same. Then, in a moment’s notice, Laura's life changed forever; along with her husband and two children, dog and cat when they noticed fire coming from the garage.
It quickly turned into something much, much, more serious. This fire and horrible tragedy has left their home unlivable. The fire was more than likely smoldering in the attic for some time before the family noticed the fire in the garage. The actual cause is unknown at this time.
It took 25 firefighters at the scene, to contain the fire; and ultimately extinguish it. Laura and her family watched, in total shock, as all got out safely with the exception of the family cat which has added to the trauma to her family and especially her children. This of course, is sans their personal belongings and all the memories one holds throughout their lifetime.
So much loss and need could be mentioned with a lifetime of one's belongings gone; not to mention the excitement of the holiday’s coming for the children. All of their warm clothes gone with winter upon us and living in the snowy Oregon mountains. The children’s crafts made throughout the years. Family keepsakes. Non-replaceable items that had to be left behind. Family photos were among the families favorites. A home that was built with love and filled with that love through and through. Brand new windows just installed were left in shards.
Laura has always been such a strong supporter to all of her Delta Zeta sisters well beyond our college years and it is now that we want to give back to her and her family and we are asking all of our friends and family to do the same. Any donation is greatly appreciated as they attempt to rebuild the needed material aspects of their lives to live day to day as the emotional toll will take years if ever, to recover from.
On behalf of Christina Rodgers-Cook, Stefani Thionnet, Gina Prenot-Balestrieri, Michele Pollack, Theresa Fitzpatrick-Christiansen and Katie Keenan- Norton we ask you to rally around Laura and her family and provide for a wonderful family in need.
Please feel free to share with your family and friends. We know Laura would be the first in line to help anyone in need at any time of day or night. Pass along email addresses if you know of Laura's friends not on Facebook. Repost as often and where you can as quickly as you can.
They are extremely grateful to all be alive. They have no idea we are doing this for them. And we all thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts for helping someone who means so much to us.
Much love,
Christina, Stefani, Gina, Michele, Theresa and Katie
