Welcome to the Go Fund Me page for the Wasmund family. We know many people have reached out, wanting to help support Brittany and her family. This is by far the best way to contribute, and send your thoughts and prayers as the family moves through this journey.
In July of 2022, the Wasmund family welcomed their new baby girl, Harper, into the world and all of our hearts. Shortly after giving birth, Brittany thought it would be a good idea to get an early mammogram to be extra cautious, given the family history. Unfortunately, the mammogram uncovered a mass, and after a biopsy, Brittany was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2022.
Life has been a whirlwind ever since. With an infant baby and a 3-year-old to take care of, Brittany underwent a bilateral mastectomy on Nov. 9. Although the surgery went very well, the post-surgery biopsy revealed that the cancer is an aggressive Grade 3. Due to the severity of her cancer, and young age, her care team has recommended she begin Chemotherapy as soon as possible. This will reduce the elevated risk of reoccurring cancer in the future. On January 6th, Brittany will begin 16 rounds of chemo treatments over the next five months. She is expected to be on hormone therapy for five years after chemo and will have reconstructive surgery in the fall of 2023.
To top it all off, baby Harper was recently hospitalized for five days with RSV. During that time, she needed to be transferred via ambulance from a hospital in Burnsville up to St. Cloud, 90 miles away from home. Jacque (Brittany's mom) came to offer support and help with Ava, so Brittany and her husband could get a hotel in St. Cloud while they traded off tending to Harper, who was on a ventilator. Harper is a tough little nugget and is home now, fully recovered.
As many of you know, Brittany is an entrepreneur who owned her own online business. Unfortunately, when she received her diagnosis, she was forced to close her business and search for a more reliable corporate role. Finding a job has proven more difficult than expected. The holidays and overall time of year, the surgery, illness in their home, and the upcoming treatment schedule make it nearly impossible for Brittany to secure a job right now. The family of four is now relying solely on her husband's income to pay for all the medical bills, childcare, groceries, formula, diapers, and all the other costs a family accrues.
Being diagnosed with cancer, closing down your business and having a brand new baby become sick is the kind of thing that no one expects to happen to them. The Wasmund family never imagined they would find themselves in this situation. Although they have already overcome so much in just the past few months, they have a long road ahead. It is up to this amazing community of loving friends and family to lift them up during these extremely difficult times. Let's help them alleviate some of the financial burdens they are about to face. Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers during the upcoming holidays and into the new year.
With all of that said, we all know that Brittany is a badass. She has handled all of this with incredible grace, courage and perseverance. She will come through to the other side of this battle stronger than ever.
Thank you all for being here and for your contribution to this wonderful family.
