Wasmer Family-Fire Recovery Fund

As some of you may or may not already know that on Friday June 5,  in the early morning hours our life was turned upside down and our house went up in flames with almost a complete loss with but safely and no one was hurt. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, there is no uncertainty that the moments of terror our family experienced were incomprehensible.  Still to this day we couldn't be more thankful that we  fell asleep on the couch while watching a movie, but sometimes in life we don't recognize how strong we actually are until we are faced with a great tragedy in our life.

It was sometime roughly around 4 AM that Hillary had woke up from the smell of smoke and said she noticed a reflection of light flicker in the hallway, she then shook me to wake up and said "Beau, wake up! I think the house might be on fire."  It took us a few seconds to wrap our heads around what was going on, but then immediately ran to the back of our house for our children and to see the fire was coming from our bedroom. The fire was beginning to spread quickly into the hallway through our room and I knew we would have to be able to make it back through here once we grabbed our children, I grabbed the blanket that was partially still wrapped around me and threw it on the fire to try and push the flame in the other direction.

We both then as quickly as possible went for our children as Hillary went to the left to grab our son Hunter who is two years old and I went to the right and grabbed our daughter Hayden who is four. They both quickly woke in panic as we are trying to keep them calm and safe but quickly explain to them to squeeze tight and tuck their faces into us until we were outside,  we then ducked down trying to stay under the flames and smoke and ran back through the hallway and out the kitchen door to the truck as the living r
oom was now in flames and just continuing to quickly spread.

We then quickly got our babies into the truck as I ran back in to grab our truck keys to make sure we could get our babies away from the area and our boots. But after coming back out we realized that we did not have a phone to call so she quickly ran in and grabbed a phone that we knew was close. She began calling 911 while we are checking on our babies, but we soon noticed the fire had now spread through the entire home and fire trucks were on the way. We could not be more thankful that my parents just live next door to us and we had a safe place to get our children to as I began to drive the truck up to their driveway, Hillary had ran up the hill and began pounding on the back door.

My father answered the back door as she told him what was happening and he had freaked with fear of not seeing the grandchildren or myself but she let them know we were coming around front. Everyone rushed to get our babies inside and safe and made sure they weren't hurt or scared as Hillary stayed with them to relax. My mother rushed out to the garage to grab the hose and get it unhooked and then my father and I ran down to hook up the hose to try and get atleast some of the fire possibly out but to realize that the toilet in our bathroom had exploded from the heat and did not have any pressu
re.

Once the firetrucks had finally began to arrive they began trying to get the fire out but ran into the issue of not having enough water as there is not any fire hydrants near our road. With having the issue of not having enough water,  we can remember counting every bit of 10 to 12 fire trucks that hauled water and making trips to and from the Williamstown Welcome Center to our residense on route 31. But we want to personally thank each and every firefighter and personnel who worked nearly three hours to get it completely extinguished and risked their safety and continue to each and every day.
It was the afternoon of the fire that we read this quote but it was the best thing we needed to read that day. "Losing everything we own is sad, but the things we own do not diminish who we are inside. Sometimes the worst situation brings out the best in us and others but perhaps what defines our character is not our struggles but how well we meet them and rise up after getting knocked down."
The fact that the four of us were able to get out of the home safe is an absolute blessing with as quickly as it seemed everything happened.

It was not easy to watch our home burn down with all the memories we have made their as I know it was even harder for my parents to watch it burn as they had lived their 25 years and raised my younger brother and I in that home but material things can always be replaced as our lives cannot. It is just hard to wrap our heads around what can happened so unexpected in life as we all have been experiencing COVID-19 and many many other things people may be struggling with that we are un aware of and we cannot predict what the future has in store for us. Life is so fragile and all it takes is a simple moment to change everything you take for grated so focus on what is important and greatful is our new moto to go by as someone was watching over us.

If some of you don't know my name is Beau Wasmer, my fiance is Hillary Dennison our beautiful children are Hayden and Hunter Wasmer and we are from a small town called Williamstown in West Virginia. Hillary and I are BOTH Union Carpenters and Mechanics that work together nearly everyday and have for the last 7 years. We truly did not want to have to create this page but unfortunately with nearly losing everything we have in the fire we are asking for any possible donations of any type of help that anyone is able to make to help us. It seems that insurnace may not cover the fire unfortantely as they are trying any way possible to not do their job. Any donations made will go directly to the process of tearing out and disposing of what is left of the home, clothes, food, and getting a new home back on to our property and being able to get back into having our home back. We would like to thank everyone ahead of time for any and all help and it will be greatly appreciated more than you know. Thank you everyone!

P.S.

We cannot tell everyone thank you enough times or show enough gratitude to our AMAZING Sunshine Mountain Road family/neighbors for everything they have done for our family since the fire and having beds, clothes to get changed into, food, and a place to stay for us and our children the day of the fire and still continued. We hope to find a way to be able to repay you all for everything you have done.
