Washington Kids in Transition (COVID-19)

Donation protected
This is a personal fundraiser for Washington Kids in Transition due to COVID-19 for the members of Edmonds Indivisible only.  Any contributions are considered gifts to me so that I can submit the donation in order to take advantage of a 3:1 matching program from my employer.  I will accept up to $5,000 in donations that will be matched.

Here is the original request from Washington Kids in Transition:

With COVID-19 affecting our immediate area, we expect there to be impacts to the families we serve. At this point in time, we expect the biggest most immediate impacts to be economic.

Many of our families work minimum wage in the service industry with no ability to telecommute. Many are being sent home due to slow business or having their hours cut way back. This is going to affect their ability to pay rent and utilities in the coming weeks.

Even if the virus does not spread in our schools, COVID-19 is still going to hit our families hard.

We are asking our community to consider sending a direct donation to Washington Kids in Transition via our PayPal link so that we can be prepared to meet this need and prevent families from potentially losing their shelter, heat or electricity because of this economic slowdown.

Thanks,
Brad Bernatek

PS: Because these are considered personal gifts to me, they are not tax deductible for you but the match far outweighs the tax deduction.  I will only match for members of Edmonds Indivisible so please do not share the link beyond this group.   If the link becomes public, I will have to turn off the fundraiser immediately.

Additional Info (at the request of GoFundMe)

Who you are and where you’re from.
My name is Brad Bernatek.  I am a resident of Edmonds, Washington.

Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds for
I currently donate to Washington Kids in Transition on a regular basis and have a daughter in the Edmonds School District.  I am connected to the Executive Director, Kim Gorney and a member of the board, Kelsey Foster, through various school and social groups in Edmonds.

How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
Food is a necessity for growth and learning. Our mission is to provide supplemental food to  children each school day. Some of the children will not have another meal from the time they leave school until they come back to school the next day. The snacks are distributed on the bus for them to take home. We solely rely on community donations to provide this food.  For more information,  see https://washingtonkidsintransition.org/.

Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary/ies
I work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which matches my donations 3 to 1 but the funds have to flow through me as a personal gift rather than directly to the non-profit (I have asked about this but it has not been approved).  Once the funds are transferred to my checking account, I will immediately make a donation using my personal credit card to Washington Kids in Transition through the Gates Benevity site in order to generate the 3 to 1 match.   You can see the Benevity confirmation in the update that posted to the campaign earlier this week.
