Playground Fundraising Walk

Hi! My name is Margaret Foss. I am retired from teaching at the Washington Island School. In my 38 years working at the school, the playground was upgraded just once, with funds raised locally to replace aged wooden climbing equipment. The school currently has a metal and plastic playset that needs repair and upgrading. The surfaces below the equipment need replacing. Several pieces of outdoor play equipment have broken and been removed. The playground needs additional equipment to replace and enhance what is there.

Kids need the physical, sensory, and imaginative play that outdoor playground equipment supports. Washington Island School students are given 1 - 2 recess periods per day (depending upon grade level), and we see how this daily activity enhances student learning, as well as social and emotional skills development.
