My name is Mika, and I am a 10th grader at Iolani School in Honolulu, Hawaii. Out of 12 students from Iolani, I have been chosen to attend the Washington DC Close-up program in April 2023. What is this program about?:

Close Up programs are unlike any other!

Using Washington, DC, as a living classroom, Close Up high school students make personal connections with the people and institutions that embody our nation’s past and present.

Close Up’s once-in-a-lifetime program opportunities are designed to inspire and empower students to become active participants in our democracy. With the help of our program instructors, students experience history and government, consider a variety of viewpoints on critical current issues, and build the skills of engaged citizenship.

Attending this program opens up so many opportunities that I would never be able to experience anywhere else. I hope to be a part of this fantastic opportunity, representing my school and the state of Hawaii.
