Update May 6, 2019: Ibrahim will be receiving in-home hospice care starting this week. He has been unable to return to work after his third brain surgery in March. The cancer has spread to the point where they no longer are able to continue treatment, they are now just working on managing pain with medication and keeping him comfortable at home. Ibrahim is no longer receiving income. Farhiya is not able to work as she is constantly by his side while still being a mother to her three sons. Your financial donation will assist this family with their grocery bills, medical bills, lost income, and paying the mortgage and utilities. Please keep the Warsame family in your thoughts. Thank you for considering helping them out financially, every little bit helps.
Update March 2019: It has been 1340 days, 3 years and 8 months since July 7, 2015. That is when this journey of glioblastoma began for the Warsame family. Three brain surgeries in three years. After each tumor and each surgery, there have been hurdles to overcome in the healing process. After being cancer free after the second surgery in February 2016 and taking time to heal from the effects of the surgery, life was returning to normal. The most recent follow up showed tumor regrowth, and it was causing migraines, seizures, and poor eyesight. Thursday, February 28th, Ibrahim went in for his 3rd brain surgery to remove yet another tumor. With a third surgery on the brain, the side effects are more noticeable and healing takes longer. The Warsame family has been through so much over the last three years. The medical bills are mounting. Farhiya has to take a leave of absence from her work to care for Ibrahim as the risk of seizures is far greater after this surgery. Ibrahim will be out of work for at least 6 weeks and then will only be able to work part-time. He has already missed work over the last few months for doctor visits and sick days, and it is not known what side effects this surgery will have. If you are able to donate even a few dollars, the family will greatly appreciate any help. This family of 5 does not need the added stress of medical bills when they are caring for Ibrahim. Thank you for your support.
On July 2015 the Warsame family received devastating news. Ibrahim, father and husband, underwent emergency surgery for a brain tumor that was found after he started experiencing migraines a few days prior. On July 7th, 2015 the tumor that was removed was found to be malignant, glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a form of brain cancer that easily spreads and has a high chance of reoccurrence. His wife, Farhiya Dahir (Warsame), and three sons (ages 7, 9, and 11), spent the summer of 2015 helping Ibrahim heal. Ibrahim was able to return to work a few months later. He underwent radiation treatments and chemotherapy. In February of 2016, a second surgery was needed to remove scar tissue and tumor regrowth. Again he was not able to work. Ibrahim is only able to work now from home and only part-time. He is still weak and trying to heal. The family has continually done the best that they can. The additional costs of expenses from mounting medical bills, special diet requirements, loss of income from not being able to work full time, and medication costs have been difficult and overwhelming on the family.
All funds received will go directly to Ibrahim and Farhiya allowing their family to cover some of the costs of medical bills, medications, and to supplement income that was lost due to Ibrahim being off work. The stress of a loved one being ill should never be compounded by the stress of medical expenses and loss of work. The Warsame family was reluctant to ask for help as they feel many in the world are worse off than they are. This page was created with their permission to assist them along their journey for Ibrahim’s health and to relieve financial stress on the family.
The Warsame family appreciates and is continually grateful for the kindness that the community has offered to them.
