Warrior Community! Thursday, September 4, 2025, our Maryanne fell victim to a Hemorrhagic Stroke. This resulted in a massive brain bleed. Maryanne's Husband was home and called Emergency Services immediately. EMTs/Firefighters arrived in minutes and determined Maryanne was experiencing a stroke and seizing with no response on the left side of her body. Her pupils were responsive but sluggish. Maryanne was placed on a gurney, an IV was started, and she was immediately intubated. She was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital (IMH) and a CT scan was ordered. The scan revealed Maryanne's head to be filled with blood. The team at IMH requested an Air Ambulance to transport Maryanne to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. As the helicopter was inbound staff prepared Maryanne for transport and her Husband, Sean, told her she was not permitted to leave us. The family raced to Winston Salem and Maryanne was taken directly to the Neuroscience Tower, Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Patient Advocates led the family to the ICU and Sean met with Dr. Stacey Wolfe. Dr. Wolfe is the Department chief, an innovator in her field and she is an Advocate for Team Maryanne! New scans revealed Maryanne suffered a massive brain bleed resulting from the rupture of a "birth defect" referred to as an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). Nothing she did, or did not do, contributed to this. Patients with AVMs often have no idea they have them. Although extremely tragic, this was bound to either happen, or not happen. Maryanne has weeks of healing in her future before Dr. Wolfe will attempt to remove the Malformation. Weeks of healing before Dr. Wolfe will attempt to repair Maryanne's brain. If you know Maryanne you know she is all goodness. If you don't know Maryanne, you soon will. It would be difficult to find a kinder soul in this little town. We thank you for your support! Maryanne Loves You! We Love You! This is going to be a long journey. We need to be steadfast. We need to be vigilant. But most of all, we need to be Warriors for Maryanne!
For those of you who are able to contribute, THANK YOU! For those of who are not, THANK YOU for your prayers, your thoughts, your positive energy, your good juju, and the grandest of support.
