On August 13, 2016, the Isaia family lives changed with the devastating news that their baby girl was diagnosed with Leukemia.
Dayanara Belle Isaia was born July 28, 2013 and has brought overwhelming happiness to the Isaia family ever since. Unfortunately, August 15, 2016 Donna took her to the emergency room at El Camino Hospital due to uncontrollable swelling in both eyes and her lips. This was the second time they took her there for the same symptoms. Approximately, June 23, 2016 was the first time and she was treated with allergy meds swelling went away & she was discharged. However, this time they took her blood & results came back immediately. The doctor sat down was straight to the point with urgency & said her white and red blood cells and platelets are extremely low that it looks like CANCER maybe LEUKEMIA. Donna & Ofisa were in complete shock. The Doctor was already in the process of working out logistics for Daya to be transported to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. There she would receive specialized treatment from Hematology & Oncology Doctors & Nurses. Daya was in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit until doctors can confirm exact cancer. So she had a bone marrow biopsy & spinal tap & PIC line procedures done. The bone marrow biopsy would reveal the type of Leukemia. Spinal tap was to remove spinal fluid and the PIC line is for IV access straight to her heart. Since she was under from the anesthesia, they went ahead & gave her an injection in her spine of radiation. While she was under from anesthesia, it was safer to give her the radiation so she would stay flat without moving. This would allow the injection to go up her spine to her brain. There was a complication during the procedures when her nose bled & doctors were afraid the blood went to her lungs. So she had to stay in PICU until she recovered then she could go to Hematology & Oncology for remainder of her stay at Lucile Packard to continue chemotherapy. Daya is now taking 4 different chemo meds that she will take 9 separate times & 5 other meds to combat the the side effects of chemo & 1 antibiotic. Her chemo consists of 29 days induction phase starting when she moved from PICU on 2nd floor to her current treatment center on 1st floor. God willing everything goes as planned without any complication, she will be discharged after successful completion of induction phase. Then she will undergo approximately 2.5 years of outpatient chemotherapy treatment plan. When God gets her through that, she has a remission period of 5 years without any sort of relapse or cancer cells, then she will be considered cured. Thank you for all of your support, and prayers for Dayanara Isaia, and her family.
