Help DC Karate Students Train in Japan!
Donation protected
Each student above, who has now earned their black belt, had the opportunity to train in Japan with the generosity of people like you. Focus, discipline, confidence, strength, respect . . . these are just some of the positive qualities that children, teens, and adults develop through martial arts. Please help us send the next group of deserving karate students from Washington, DC to Japan in August 2024!
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Every dollar counts. Plane tickets from D.C. to Japan, accommodations, ground transportation, and training fees total more than $4500 per person! Your gift goes towards travel scholarships to help pay for training fees and cultural activities to ensure all eligible students (and chaperones) can make the trip.
WHO ARE YOU HELPING?
Accompanied by their teacher, Sensei Patrick Burton, Graycen, Noah, Gabe, Alex, and Chanara are accomplished students who have spent years training to earn upper-level belts, and they now have an opportunity to train with Masters in Kyoto and Okinawa. Students succeed personally and academically/professionally, serving as role models and assisting younger students while progressing along their own martial arts path.
Warrior Origins is a project of Warrior Karate in Washington, D.C. Eligible students participate in activities that will deepen their appreciation of, and skill in, martial arts. Because karate is more than a sport - it's a way of life - Warrior Origins encourages global citizenship by organizing opportunities for international travel to train with masters in the birthplaces of modern martial arts.
EXCITED TO RETURN!
In 2016 and 2017, students trained at the International Karate Study Centre in Okinawa. In 2018, students trained at Samurai Juku in Kyoto and also learned about authentic Japanese swordsmithing at Asano Kajiya in Gifu. 2023 marked our first trip back to Kyoto since the global pandemic, for Kendo and Ninja training. This year, students have the opportunity to visit and train in both Kyoto and Okinawa.
WITH GRATITUDE
Sensei Patrick founded Warrior Karate in 2010. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Sensei Patrick is a veteran Army Ranger and sixth degree black belt with over 30 years of martial arts experience.
Thanks so much for your support!
