Warriors of the Light, Inc.’s founder, Beth Sturdevant, needs your help.
In 2018, Warriors of the Light was formed with the simple yet powerful goal of being a collaborative wellness centre for all those who needed it. Using much of Viking culture and natural healing as a platform to incorporate highly skilled volunteers and contracted instructors in various forms of combat and self defence, physical fitness, knife and axe throwing, sword and shield combat, trauma support, energy work, community outreach, and social events - all aimed at helping people to strengthen their minds and bodies, and recover from the adverse effects of trauma while finding hope in themselves and their lives again. Our community grew as did the need for it; it was a dream built on compassion. It was a dream that was a reality....and one we were, and still are, proud to be a part of.
Enter COVID-19
No one saw any of this coming. Nor could our founder and director, Beth Sturdevant, have planned for it.
Warriors of the Light, Inc. was a Not-For-Profit organisation run by passionate volunteers and a few contracted instructors. Having only been open for a year and a half, remaining closed for 5 months during the pandemic without being able to operate or make any income, threatened our very existence and the dream Beth Sturdevant created.
On top of that, with the Federal government failing to make their CECRA rent abatement program mandatory, that meant that our corporate landlord had the option of rejecting it, inevitably leaving us and our community no chance of recovery and in dire need of help.
In light of the circumstances, Warriors of the Light, Inc.’s inability to survive the extensive length of the mandatory shutdown forced Beth to dissolve the Not-For-Profit corporation, and put her at risk of filing for personal bankruptcy due to the extensive loans she took out to start Warriors of the Light, Inc.
You see, Beth Sturdevant believed in this dream so completely that her personal liability is now on the line. She is a hard-working, full-time single mother of 2 boys, who has dedicated her entire life to helping men and women from all walks of life, find passion, purpose, and strength in themselves again. Watching her stare down the barrel of losing so much after giving so much to the community, is beyond heartbreaking....it is just plain wrong. More than that though, it is not just Beth who is now suffering from the closure, but Warriors of the Light, Inc.’s community as a whole. All those who came to us for support, for inspiration, and for direction; soldiers and first responders, single parents struggling to regain hope, teenagers looking to connect and feel confident in themselves and their abilities, women wanting to feel independent, valuable, and strong, people suffering from the effects of depression and PTSD, and so many individuals who found comfort and compassion within the safety and comfort of our walls.
It isn't right. It isn't fair....and it is time we did something collaboratively to help our founder, our dream maker, Beth Sturdevant.
100% of the donations will go towards helping Beth recover the legal and closing fees she has recently paid for, personally, in light COVID-19 and having to close down early of no fault of her own; and towards paying back some of the debt she is now solely responsible for repaying out of pocket, as a full-time single mother of 2 boys.
NOW IS THE TIME TO GIVE.
Vikings have a simple philosophy: "you give when you have"; Viking feasts were founded on this principal. Alone we may only have a little...but if everyone brings a little then together we have all that we will ever need. No donation is too small or too big. It all helps Beth, which in turn helps us keep the dream Warriors of the Light started, alive.
