Warrior Wes: Standing Strong Together Against Brain Cancer

The Miller Family, consisting of Nate and Erin, and their three young children, Maggie, Wesley, and Sam, are one of the most loving, caring, and kindhearted families I have ever come to know. Both parents are dedicated in the education field. They always jump to put anyone above themselves. I, personally, have had the pleasure of working alongside Nate for over 8 years. As both a 4th grade teacher and dean of students, his level of love, passion, and care for his students and staff goes well above and beyond what could be expected in someone in his position.

In late September, however, the Miller family's life took a very unexpected turn. Wesley, their 3-year-old son, had been having some minor struggles with balance, sight, and speech. An eye doctor recommended an MRI to get a closer understanding of what might be going on. This MRI discovered a brain tumor on Wes' cerebellum. On October 1st, Wes had surgery to have the tumor removed. After over 8 hours of surgery, the tumor was successfully removed. Wesley and his family began planning next steps for a long road to recovery as, due to the tumor's location, Wes had lost a lot of function in his mobility, speech, and everyday functions.

Wesley was showing growth in his physical therapy and making progress over the next week. However, on October 6th, things became even heavier as the family learned that the tumor was cancerous. The diagnosis was Medulloblastoma, which is one of the most common malignant brain tumor but is also considered one of the most aggressive. This means that the cancer could spread and has a chance of returning down the line. This also means that there will be a very long road of rehabilitation, treatment, and physical therapy.

Wes is a bright, kind, and brave young boy who lights up every room he is in. Even through his current treatment, pain, and discomfort, he frequently teases his dad and mom and spreads endless smiles and joy into every doctor, nurse, or person that enters into his journey. His parents have always given so much of themselves to help others’ children learn and grow. Now, they need to turn all their focus toward helping their own son fight this battle with cancer. Through all of this journey, Wesley and his family have remained resilient, positive, and so incredibly strong.

As they care for Wes, they are also juggling life with their 5-year-old daughter, Maggie, and their newborn son, Sam. Understandably, both parents will need to take time away from work to be there for their children and to navigate countless doctor visits, hospital stays, treatments, as well as getting temporary housing to remain closer to the hospital that Wes is in full time.

This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial burden on the Miller family—covering medical expenses, travel costs, lost income, and day-to-day needs—so they can focus entirely on what matters most: supporting Wesley through his fight and caring for their family.

No family should have to face this kind of challenge alone. Every donation, positive thought, and message of support means the world to them. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go a long way in offering them one less thing lingering on their mind to ensure they put their thoughts and energy into what matters most: their family.

Thank you for keeping Wes and the Miller family in your thoughts and for helping them through this unimaginably difficult time. ❤️
