Isabella was born with a very rare bone dysplasia called Femoral Focal Hypoplasia Unusual Facies Syndrome. Her condition is so rare that many doctors have never heard of it.
The Warrior Princess is at it again. She has been recovering from a broken femur for close to two years. During that time she had numerous surgeries and was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. Not only does she have a lumbar curve she also has a thoracic curve. We moved to Florida and it has taken 9 months to find a surgeon who would take her as their patient. I had taken her to 5 surgeons who all insisted that I go back home to the doctor who knew her the best. They were all afraid of causing her more problems and not being able to properly care for her. They wouldn't even release her for therapy. After a conversation with her surgeon back home she suggested that I take Isabella to Miami to the Orthopedic Trauma Center. A few weeks ago I made the trip with her and met with Dr. Schoenleber and while consulting with him he called his colleague Dr. George to look at the xrays for Isabella's spine. He called her scoliosis "progressive" and changing quickly. Her lower spine was at a 50% and thoracic at 45%, a 20% increase since February when she saw a scoliosis specialist closer to home. He discussed a plan with me and Dr. Schoenleber agreed that before addressing her hips and leg (still healing from the break 2 years ago), that her back must be fixed. Isabella was scheduled for Scoliosis surgery on July 20th, a week after her 12th birthday. This will be a completely new surgery for her with new doctors. Her hospital stay shouldn't be long but it really depends on how she does. She will have bi weekly follow ups at first and then monthly. She is expected to be back to 100% with in 6 months and Dr. Schoenleber will see her again at the 3 months mark to put a plan together for him surgery and hardware removal and replacement.
I am raising funds to help out during this time with gas (it is a 5-6 hr drive from where we live), housing while there and other basic needs. The total amount is what I projected for 3-6 months that will be going back and forth for the follow ups and other surgeries. I am not 100% sure what this surgery will encompass but I know there will be rods and possible fusing and bone grafting from her ribs.
Please feel free to share this with family and friends, any donations will be appreciated and helpful and please keep her in your prayers and send her light, good vibes and good juju her way. I am nervous but she said she just wants her back to stop hurting.
