This Fundraiser was Created on Behalf of the Huddleson Family to assist them during this challenging time.
Ansel Austin Huddleson was born via emergency c-section on 8/16/2021. He was to transferred to UC Davis due to unexpected health issues that were discovered after he was born. It was originally thought that Ansel had a tumor in his right kidney; however, it was learned later that Ansel had developed a massive blood clot in Utero . This blood clot cut off blood supply to his right kidney and he had to have it removed. The Huddleson family needed to stay at UC Davis for two weeks while Ansel had surgery and recovered.
At the end of September, Ansel developed an infection at his surgery site and the family headed back to UC Davis for two more days for IV antibiotics.
10/16 : Ansel had to flighted to UC Davis due difficulty breathing due to RSV.
10/17 & 10/18 : Ansel’s little body was starting to experience respiratory failure. Ansel’s right lung partially collapsed and he was not properly releasing C02 from his body so his levels are high. They have put in the breathing tube and placed on a ventilator.
10/19: Ansel's upper right lung had collapsed and he is in respiratory failure, which is when they decided to intubate. He is still breathing on his own but not effectively and was nearing the point when he would stop altogether. He was working too hard to get his air. The respiratory therapists have been providing special treatments that have worked to get his lung back up and as of this morning it no longer looks collapsed. The treatments continue as they work to clear out the gunk that RSV is filling his lungs with.
Unfortunately, not only is he battling RSV, but he also has what they call a superinfection in his lungs and potential septicemia all as a secondary result of this infection. His vitals have really been up and down. We are waiting to get the blood culture back to determine what bacteria is causing this secondary infection, but they are treating him with antibiotics in the meantime.
10/20: Ansel’s blood culture came back positive for the H-flu, or Haemophilus influenza . It is a bacterial infection and it took advantage of his weakened immune system from the RSV. Essentially, it’s what is causing pneumonia for Ansel. Thankfully they had preemptively started his antibiotics so they are just confirming that the one they chose will be the best for this specific bacteria. They went up a little bit in his oxygen levels they are giving him, just to give his body a little more rest. They also started him on anti-coagulants since he isn’t getting much movement on a ventilator and he has the history of his blood clot. They are going to do some genetic testing/studies of his blood for coagulation issues as well.
Thank you all so much for any help you can give that will be used by the Huddleson Family for meals, gas, and other necessities as they are away from home while Ansel fights this superinfection. We will post updates as soon as we get them!
