Update Jan 1, 2025
Thanks to great customers, supporters and friends, we were given advice about our rights as a tennant and are happy to say that the landlord has agreed to now provide “basic heat” on weekends and after hours. We are thrilled and grateful to all of you for your help as well as very valuable advice. We were told that we should invest in a more permanent solution to provide supplemental heat in our space on weekends and “off hours” so that it can be comfortable for everyone. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and have closed the page as we feel we have met our biggest hurdle and rest assured every dollar donated will be spent on a more permanent solution to heating our storefront.
Happy and healthy holidays to everyone.
We are a family, women-owned business that started back in 1991—a mother and her two daughters. It all started with my mom making our lavish birthday cakes. When people wanted lessons on how to make cakes, she started teaching them, which led to our first storefront in 1991. We proudly survived through COVID, even though at times it looked grim.
Now that we are finally seeing business start to return to normal, we need to fix an ongoing heating issue on off hours-weekends and evenings. We need to find a more permanent solution to having a heat source on the weekend. We rely on events and classes on weekends in order to pay rent. We would have to close on the weekends and forgo classes, private events, and children’s birthday parties without a more permanent solution.
We are looking to cover 13 hours on the weekends at $250 per hour and/or try to resolve this system once and for all by adding heating coils to our unit if possible.
We have never asked for help and are sad that we have to ask for help now, but we truly know no other way.
We thank you for considering us and hope we can get this resolved so we can continue our work.
