Hello friends!
My name is Rachel Kaufman, and I am the co-founder and an ensemble member at the newly established Wanderers Theatre Company.
Wanderers Theatre Company is excited to present RIVETING by Maria Welser at the Greenhouse Theatre Center this November 11th-13th, but we need your help to make it happen!
Wanderers Theatre Company is a Chicago-based theatre collective founded in 2022 by Megan Clarke, Rachel Kaufman, Sarah Silva-James, and Maria Welser. Our mission is to enjoy the journey. As we navigate life onstage, we embrace the potholes and flat tires and celebrate our return home. Our community of theater artists is dedicated to creative exploration and traveling down unfamiliar roads.
In RIVETING, Anna examines the roadmap of her life, realizing she may not want to follow such a predictable path. As a museum archivist, she reflects on the historical women she’s studied and laments that her legacy will be forgotten to memory. In a twist of fate, a ghostly figure from her research comes to her with a proposition - to trade her life for one that will live on forever.
Under Playwright/Director Maria Welser’s direction, this new play explores the complexity of relationships amidst the pursuit of self-discovery, all while confronting historical immorality, celebrating female heroism, and finding meaning in the mundane. This entertaining and time-transcending story attempts to help us understand the world around us and needs to be shared. That is where you come in!
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists have struggled to find funding to tell the world's stories. Artists will often lend their time, skills, and knowledge to projects they feel passionately about. The passion for storytelling and connection often leads to artists funding their productions out of pocket. Our ultimate goal is to be able to fund our creative endeavors fully. However, we are a new company, and we would greatly appreciate your support as we get on our feet.
Our funds have already covered our venue costs ($900). We aim to raise $1420 to cover props, costumes, set pieces, general liability insurance, and marketing.
Cost Breakdown: $2010
$300 - Props
$300 - Set pieces
$350 - Costumes
$120 - General Liability insurance
$440 - Marketing (i.e., two large vinyl posters to display at Greenhouse Theater Center for $150, small posters for local businesses for $20, League of Chicago Membership for $270, Instagram ads)
$500 - Sound & Lighting Designer

While we aren’t saving lives here, we are telling a story that will make you laugh, ask new questions, and leave you with a greater sense of empathy. With that in mind, if you feel like throwing some spare change at a dedicated group that puts on a damn good, honest play, you've come to the right place. If you do not wish to donate but would still like to help, we ask that you share this page with your friends or anyone else you think may be interested in helping us get this show on the road.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our campaign, for valuing this art form, for sharing our efforts, and for your contribution. We are constantly reminded that many stories would remain untold without the generosity of those who support the arts.
