Wanda Henson Help! Graft v Host Disease complicati

- Hello to everyone in my Birth Family, LGBT Community Family, Colleagues and Patients. I wish I was announcing happy news. Unfortunately, I have a medical challenge to face and I seriously need your help. After my Primary Doc misdiagnosed me with a Viral problem, I was forced to take matters into my own hands. I read the bloodwork and I knew there was a problem: a bone marrow problem. I quickly got another doc to send me to hematology. After waiting four months for labs and finally a bone marrow biopsy, I called MD Anderson. I knew my diagnosis was Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), very rare and mostly found in men! MD Anderson got me an appointment within 4 days and I was admitted a week later for initiating chemotherapy. You see, MDS, in my case, is an extremely aggressive cancer of the bone marrow. How did I get MDS? I've had Covid 4 times. I've worked as a nurse for 48 years. I caught Covid twice from my patients. Covid wrecked havoc on my immune system.
I retired last year. My income is Social Security. I just learned 2 of my medications, when I go home after a 30 day stay here at MD Anderson, together have a copay of $600. Next month I will come back to Houston and be in the hospital for 1 week. When I come to Houston for my bone marrow transplant, I must stay in the hospital for 60 days and in Houston close to the hospital for an additional 60 days.
I could get housing for the additional 60 days at no cost but I will need a 24 hours a day Caregiver. I am sure other expenses will popup.
The Bone Marrow transplant is my one chance to beat this nightmare. The aftercare and medication copay are very costly.
Please help me. No gift is too large or too small. I sincerely believe that everything we need is in our Community.
Sincerely,
Wanda Henson
