Hi, this is Shelley, Walter's wife. Many of you may also know him as Dutch. In 2018, he was diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease which requires dialysis 3 times a week. About a month ago, he had a fever and overall fatigue so I called an ambulance. Once at the hospital, they realized that he had endocarditis which is an infection in the heart. They transferred him from our local hospital to USC, which is 2-3 hours from our home, for surgery. A few days later, 31 March, they did open heart surgery and replaced the infected valve. For the past 2 weeks, I have been driving back and forth to USC or staying in hotels periodically and had to get takeout for meals which is getting expensive. Now as I prepare for his homecoming, there are additional expenses. I had to purchase an adjustable bed for him and will need to hire a home care aide to assist in his recovery. So I am starting this fundraiser to assist with these unexpected expenses. Please help our family get through this crisis if you can. Every little bit helps.
