Today, our beloved companion Walter was rushed to the emergency vet, where we received the heartbreaking news that he required urgent surgery due to a ruptured mass on his spleen. He has had the surgery and is doing well at the WVRC in Waukesha. The veterinarians have informed us that there is a 60% chance the mass may be a form of cancer known as Canine Splenic Hemangiosarcoma.
We’re facing a difficult wait, as Walter’s spleen has to be sent across the country for testing. It will be 7 to 10 days before we know if he has cancer. If it turns out to be malignant, the prognosis is heartbreaking—just 4 to 6 weeks without treatment, or 4 to 6 months with it. All we can do now is hope with everything we have that Walter is one of the 40% of dogs whose tumors are benign.
The emotional and financial toll of this sudden crisis has been incredibly difficult. Walter is more than just a pet—he is family. He is the most gentle, loyal, and loving dog we could have ever hoped for. If you know me, chances are you’ve also met Walter and experienced his warm, joyful spirit.
We are reaching out in this incredibly hard moment to ask for help. Any support would mean the world to us. We are deeply grateful for any kindness you can offer as we fight to give Walter the care he needs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
