In December of 2024, while volunteering in Kenya, I had the privilege of meeting Walter. He was one of the participants at Dribble Dreams’ basketball and education clinics. He was so dedicated to basketball, kind, engaged, compassionate and vulnerable. We spent the week at camp getting to know each other. Walter has two sisters and a brother. His mom has been taking care of the four of them since his father left when he was younger. Walter enjoys drawing, singing and connecting with others. I’ve kept in contact with Walter since returning home! During our camp the participants were on their summer break so I asked Walter when he’d be returning to school. He never made a big deal of it and always said he hopes to return soon. Recently, he humbly reached out for help. Walter is almost done his final year in high school but is unable to return until his outstanding tuition balance is paid. His mom has been trying to raise money for him but hasn’t been successful. He has been so full of gratitude and hope since I brought up the idea of helping to raise the amount owing. I truly hope to have a positive and lasting impact on Walter’s life beyond the week spent in Kenya. Being able to send him back to school, with your help, would mean the world to both him and I. I thank you in advance for any amount you’re willing to donate. Your kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed!
