Your donation to this fund will support the creation of a sustaining memorial garden at the North Tonawanda Botanical Gardens, a site Walt loved in his life. The memorial area will include flowers and other local perennial plants at the discretion of the NT Botanical Gardens, an engraved bench for Walt's visitors, and other small beautification items. Help us keep the memory of Walt alive in our hearts by providing a place of peace and comfort in the garden.
Walt MacDonald, who valiantly, defiantly, and stoically led his battle against cancer, passed on Sunday, March 21, 2021.
Walt was the beloved best friend and favorite person of Jann MacDonald, loving father of Wally (Crystal), Teresa (Jeremy), Sara, and Tim, and son of the late Toni and Walter Jr.. Walt will also be dearly missed as the beloved brother of Pattie, Kathy (Keith), Donna, and John (Debbie), and is survived by several nieces, nephews, and many others of his neighborhood family. His proudest achievements were his grandchildren Alexis, Noella, Jovany, Aiden, Evelyn, and Ella, who surrounded him with love in his final days and weeks.
Walter started his management career at McDonalds on Meadow Dr. where he met Jann, his wife of 41 years. Previously he had worked as a farm hand on a cattle ranch in Indiana, as an accomplished house painter, and as a tenured electrician and lineman with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for 10 years. He was a most proud integral member of the team and family of Aero Instruments and Avionics, Inc. in North Tonawanda, where he had been employed as Director of Quality Operations for 37 years.
The many who knew Walt knew him as a man of character, laughter, and spirit. We will all fondly remember visits to the Beer Shed and nights spent enjoying the company of "The Mayor of NT". Walt was particularly fond of the flowers in his home's garden, and the Memorial Garden will continue his purpose by bringing color and life to the community in his memory.
