This past Saturday night, our cat Wally was admitted to the hospital for complications related to an ongoing condition he suffers from called megacolon. We’ve been monitoring his recovery at home, anxiously waiting to see if he’s out of the woods for now.

This is the second time within the past year that Wally has required life-saving emergency treatment due to his condition. Since adopting him in April 2024, Wally’s medical bills have eclipsed $5,000 in total. While we have gone the past 7 months without incident, this weekend has made it clear to us that no matter how much time and planning we put into his daily care, his health will always be at risk, and there is a limit to the quality of care that we can afford.

These bills have of course taken a toll on us, both financially and emotionally. The decision to look outward for help was not an easy one, but it’s become clear to us that if we want to remain Wally’s parents and caregivers, we will likely continue to be faced with unexpected costs of this magnitude in the future.

Wally is a part of our family. Despite spending the first year of his life on the mean streets of LA, he has been the sweetest and most gentle little cat we could ever ask for. Wally’s perfect day is cuddling us for 24 hours.

We want to do anything we can to prevent the heartbreaking conversation of finding him a new home in order to have his needs met. We’re hoping that with a little help from friends and family, the cost of his care can remain within our scope.

Any donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. We’ve set the donation goal at $1272, which reflects the costs of his recent hospitalization.

We obviously do not at all expect to surpass our fundraising goal, but if that were to happen, any further donations would exclusively be used for preventative care and emergency procedures, should he ever need it again.
