Wall-Powers Fire Relief Fund

Carrie Blackmon is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Nicholas (Nick), Barb and Dominik Wall.

Dear beloved community,

My Brother Nick and his family were safely evacuated and are now facing the reality that they have lost most of their clothing and electronics due to a fire caused by aging wiring in their laundry room 2/5/2021. Their home was first purchased by our grandparents in 1963. It has been the backdrop for births, birthdays, holidays, retirements, divorces, marriages,  graduations, new cars, Sunday suppers, weekday lunches and deaths. It has housed more memories than I can count. Now it sits empty and damaged.

They have relocated to a location they can stay at until the repairs on their home are finished. Which will likely be for a few months, maybe more. What the fire and heat didn't damage directly, the smoke damaged. This includes clothing for each of the three of them, computers, electronics, etc.  Many electronics were in the basement, on a shared wall with the laundry room, thus were melted. Hot smoke was pulled into my Nephews computer in his room, which he built himself for gaming.  All of the clothes and linens in the laundry room were ruined by the fire. Their beloved St. Louis Blues jerseys are melted polyester clumps on the laundry room floor. Disks they had family photos transferred on melted.

The location they are at currently is 20 miles further from their jobs. Thus more gas will be needed for commuting. They have 1 dog and 2 cats which are safely with them as well.

I'm inviting you to join us in helping soften the disorienting blow this past weekend has brought on their lives.  I am near Chicago IL, they are near St. Louis MO. I hope these funds can buy them much needed clothing, and when it comes time to replace what was lost, they can do so.

Also cover any medical costs for counseling to deal with the lingering memories of seeing your house on fire, fighting it yourself, and seeing the aftermath once the fire department left.

I know that the pandemic is affecting us all in challenging ways, finances included—so whatever you're able to contribute is deeply appreciated. Please also consider sharing this with your circle of family and friends.

Thank you, for helping hold my family in our collective embrace. Together let's be the net that catches them during this time when the ground has disappeared from underneath their feet.
