Wallace Needs Our Help Right Now!

As many of you know, Wallace recently began displaying symptoms of a decline in health. The world froze as we all held our breath and prayed that our beloved dude still had at least a few more of those nine lives left.

If you follow Jay, you know Wallace has brought endless joy and comfort to us all since Jay brought him home in 2016 – offering us much-needed levity during the pandemic, especially – and we all expected those green eyes and stripes to make cameos in Jay's video for many years to come. This sudden turn of events was heartbreaking both as friends of Wallace, and of Jay, and a few days ago we got the bad news: Wallace was diagnosed with FIP, feline infectious peritonitis. In the words of Jay, "It's really bad. Could be only days."

But Wallace wasn't done fighting yet, and neither was Jay.

Apropos of Jay's legacy with The Underground Railroad, it turns out there is an underground treatment protocol for FIP using an off-label drug unapproved by the FDA – and it's known to be successful. The good cat dad he is, Jay rushed into action and got Wallace set up for treatment within the day. But this is just the beginning of our hero's journey.

Because this treatment is underground and takes time, it results in *wildly* expensive vet bills. We're talking thousands upon thousands of dollars getting racked up in a very short period. No matter how much you prepare for such an expense, you take a HARD hit, and it can take a very long time to recover from that. The $5K goal is just a fraction of what this type of care costs. As one of Jay's friends cautioned about the treatment Wallace is undergoing, "It's a marathon, so prepare yourself for a long haul."

It's absolutely terrible that with how our systems are set up, people essentially risk going bankrupt or having to choose to end their best friend's life, and no one, especially Jay, should have to be in that position.

So that's why we're starting this GoFundMe.

If Wallace has ever brought a smile to your day, or if you're just an animal lover and want to throw him your support and show him that the world gives a shit about animal welfare, please toss some money in the pot.

Think of it this way: imagine the next time you see Jay. Would you want to buy Jay a cup of coffee, or a nice dinner as thanks for all he does? Great. Donate that money here instead. It will go a LONG way toward getting Wallace the desperate help he needs, and ensuring Jay's life doesn't suffer a major setback simply because he's choosing to support his best friend in the same way he's always done (and will continue to do) for all of us.
