Walkingrich A Story Of Perseverance
Donation protected
Hello guys Walkingrich here I'd like to start off by thanking you for taking the time out of your busy schedule in order to check out my story. As some of you may know I've been in a wheelchair since 2017. Being confined to a wheelchair isn't easy. It comes with constant changes and dealing with things that are outside of your control. As if things weren't already hard enough I've taken it upon myself to start businesses, have a child, and actively work towards my goal of walking again. I've decided to start this gofundme for those who are inspired by what I do on the day-to-day and would like to contribute to the Walkingrich movement. Anything helps and every donation is appreciated.
At the peak of my accomplishments just having graduated from the illustrious Tuskegee University one month prior, On June 18th, 2017 my life changed forever. When approached by two armed gunmen, in a attempt to flee I suffered a single gunshot wound to the L2 vertebrae which resulted in the shattering of my spinal canal.
As I woke the next morning in the hospital bed I remembering hearing the comforting sound of my mother voice as the doctors entered the room, As he continued to talk my body began to go numb as he told me it was nothing materialistic I had lost, but I had lost something far much greater, I had lost my ability to walk and if I ever wanted to walk again it would require extensive therapy.
Millions of thoughts crossed my mind as I slowly crept into depressions, thinking of the many task that I could no longer complete, crushed as I sat in the hospital bed the life that I once new was over.
Eight days later I was blessed enough to be transferred to Brooks Rehabilitation where I would began my new journey. Day in and Day out I continued to put my best foot forward into my recovery following my release three weeks later. As I began outpatient therapy I would invest as many as 5hours/ 4-5 days a week into my recovery, I saw tremendous results as I gained movement and feeling back in both of my legs.
On January 16th, 2018 I had to make the tuff decision to leave Brooks Rehabilitation in order to return home where I would continue to receive assistance from my parents. Landing in California for the first time in over three years I felt uneasy due to the many unknowns. As I began to get things back in order therapy was the first on the agenda.
After finding therapy that would accept my insurance I was told that my time would be decreased to one hour per week. I simply said to my self "How would I ever began to walk again only training one hour per week?"
In order to ensure that I’m putting my best foot forward I’ve decided to do a combination of in-home therapy as well as therapy at a facility to ensure that I maximize my therapy hours like before. Although my fight has been cut short it’s not over and I’m not giving up.
Every donation of any amount is greatly appreciated, I understand that all aren’t able to donate financially, if you could simply share my story on all social media platforms it would be appreciated greatly . #wheelchairgang#walkingrich
