After 30 years as a physiotherapist, I've witnessed firsthand how the smallest medical supplies can transform lives. I recently returned from Siem Reap, Cambodia, where I volunteered with the Jesuit Order and Mercy Sisters in supporting individuals who rely on mobility aids.
What I found was an amazing group of both patients and staff who are extremely proactive in helping themselves. Their ingenuity and practical skills create durable 3-wheeled wooden wheelchairs and crutches for their dirt roads. The walking aids are for long-term use as most are amputees from landmines or untreated diabetes.
The Cambodians are all for helping themselves – and they do! One small but important part of their crutches/walking sticks is their rubber ends. They just cannot get them or make them.
Here in Australia a family run distributor for the most durable ferrules is Flexyfoot Australia, who have been receptive to helping this worthy cause. Their rubber endings are not only long-lasting but flexible for different terrain. Without these endings, walking becomes ultimately impossible for those who depend on crutches daily. In Cambodia, these runner stops are nearly impossible to find. For 100 tips it costs $3,999.
Your donation will directly provide:
• Durable rubber crutch tips for hundreds of Cambodians
• Safer mobility for children and adults who rely on long-term crutch use.
• Extended life for existing mobility equipment
• Dignity and independence for those with mobility challenges.
I'll personally deliver them when I return to Cambodia this November, ensuring 100% of your donation goes directly to this critical need.
For less than $20 you can help someone walk safely for a lifetime. Together, we can make an immediate, tangible difference.
It’s stronger to cross the finish line together.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
