my name is Lilly-Mae and I am 17 years old, I have recently found a 22cm tumour coming off my adrenal gland which isn’t only rare for someone so young but the size is absolutely mind blowing. Me and my family have suddenly found out it is most likely going to be cancer. Even though no one is certain until it has been removed from my body, cancer sounds like the answer right now. I have been fortunate enough to have had the best care from the beginning of my journey but I will have the best support until the end. Starting with my gp, to Blackburns endocrinologist, to Salfords high end endocrinologist but now to the Christie’s team and many more including surgeons from the Royal Marsden in Chelsea, who treated princess Kate’s cancer, coming to watch my surgery. The surgery will take place in September and will be an intense surgery according to my surgeon due to blood vessels surrounding my tumour and the displacement of a lot of my organs. I would love to give back to this hospital for many reasons the first being, when I first walked in you could sense the care and the passion in every member of staff and the smiles on the patients faces I met so I would like to do something to make other patients journey more comfortable. My aim is to walk 2K a day up to the day before my surgery not only to keep me positive and something to focus on but to give back to everyone else going through their own journeys to beat cancer. My start date is Monday 27th of July 2026 up until the date of my surgery in September.
