Walking together with our beloved Mayita, Prof. Orlando Sucre’s (USB, UCAB) wife

Omaira Rosales de Sucre, “Mayita” (63 years old, living in Caracas, Venezuela) is the most caring, sweet, strong, and loving mom and wife you could imagine. She is the center of our family, always giving us support to accomplish all our dreams. I have no words to thank her for everything she has done for my dad, my brother, and myself. She has always supported my dad while he devoted his life to teaching Electronical Engineering at Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) for 25 years and even 6 years after retirement, and now while he is teaching Telecommunications Engineering at Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB); and also, she has been the counselor, teacher, guide and support of my brother and mine, while we grew to become a Mechanical Engineer and a M.Sc. in Chemistry (USB) (Universidad Central de Venezuela, UCV), respectively.
When Mayita was an infant, she got poliomyelitis resulting in her left leg being smaller, weaker, prompt to falls, and developing osteoporosis as a result, leading in a bone loss corresponding to a person of more than 80 years old. Nevertheless, she has always been a very strong women despite her disability, being an example of inner strength. In December 2019, she fell and broke her tibial bone, and she used a splint for several months. After receiving physiotherapy in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was able to walk again.
Sadly, she fell again on her left leg on June 21, 2021, breaking her femur (Displaced Supracondylar Femoral Fracture). Because of this, and to ensure her speedy and successful recovery, she requires an urgent surgery (in 15-21 days maximum) to attach an intramedullary inter-locking nail, with a projected cost of USD 11’500, so she can walk again (please refer to the medical data attached, originally in Spanish and translated to English by myself).
Our family has been impoverished due to the actual economic crisis in Venezuela, making it impossible to pay for her surgery. I kindly ask you for your support in donating and sharing this campaign. Together, we can make it possible that our beloved Mayita—my mom—walks again.

Omaira Rosales de Sucre, “Mayita” (63 años, vive en Caracas, Venezuela) es la más bondadosa, dulce, fuerte y amorosa madre y esposa que puedan imaginar. Ella es el centro de nuestra familia, siempre apoyándonos para lograr todos nuestros sueños. No tengo palabras para agradecerle todo lo que ha hecho por mi papá, mi hermano y por mí. Ella siempre ha apoyado a mi papá mientras él ha dedicado su vida a la enseñanza de Ingeniería Electrónica en la Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) por 25 años y por 6 años luego de su retiro, y ahora mientras enseña Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones en la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB). También mi mamá ha sido la consejera, maestra, guía y apoyo de mi hermano y mía mientras crecimos para convertirnos en Ingeniero Mecánico (Universidad Central de Venezuela, UCV) y Máster en Química (USB), respectivamente.
Cuando Mayita era una bebé, ella contrajo poliomielitis (polio), lo que la llevó a tener su pierna izquierda más pequeña, débil y propensa a caídas, desarrollando osteoporosis como consecuencia. Actualmente, ella tiene una pérdida ósea que corresponde a una persona de más de 80 años. Sin embargo, ella siempre ha sido una mujer muy fuerte sin importar su discapacidad, siendo un ejemplo vivo de fuerza interior. En diciembre del año 2019, se cayó y tuvo una fractura de la tibia, teniendo que usar una férula por varios meses. Después de recibir fisioterapia en medio de la pandemia por coronavirus, ella pudo volver a caminar.
Tristemente, ella volvió a caerse el 21 de junio y se fracturó el fémur izquierdo (fractura desplazada supracondílea fémur izquierdo). Debido a esto, y para asegurar una pronta y exitosa recuperación, ella requiere una operación urgente (en un plazo de 15-21 días luego del día de la fractura) para la colocación de un clavo endomedular bloqueado en su fémur izquierdo, con un costo de 11500 dólares para que pueda caminar nuevamente (para más información, el informe médico y presupuesto se encuentra en esta publicación).
Nuestra familia se ha visto empobrecida como resultado de la consabida crisis económica actual que atraviesa Venezuela, haciendo imposible costear esta operación. Por esto, ruego su apoyo en donar y compartir esta campaña. Juntos, podemos hacer posible que nuestra amada Mayita (mi mamá) pueda caminar de nuevo.
