Sam Wilkinson’s 46 mile walk to support Teckels
In June 2021 I went for a run on my lunch break and was hit by a car. This collision left me with a Traumatic Brain Injury, a broken arm, a fractured nose and damage to my radial nerve, among other injuries.
At only 26 years old I had to navigate a new life with huge changes to my body and mind. From re-learning to walk to climbing Scafell Pike, I have surpassed many expectations. In early 2023 I found a new opportunity to support my recovery at Teckels Animal Sanctuaries in Gloucestershire. Despite my brain injury and frustrating memory problems, Teckels welcomed me with open arms, trusting me to look after the fantastic dogs that they have in their care.
I would now like to re-pay the favour and support Teckels during a time of need. Due to rapidly rising costs and donations from gifts and wills being down, Teckels will have to close their doors if they cannot increase the funding they receive from the public. The charity does so much for local cats and dogs, it is incredibly distressing to think about what will happen to these animals if Teckels can no longer operate.
To support Teckels and raise awareness that life does not end after brain injury, I will be walking the Cotswold Way from King’s Stanley to Bath (46 miles) on Saturday 13 May. I would be grateful for any donations that can be made to support me in this fundraiser. All proceeds will go directly to Teckels Animal Sanctuaries.
