'Wouldn't it be lovely to set up a sanctuary where senior dogs could live out their lives in comfort, eating real food, sleeping on soft couches, getting massages and receiving constant love?
'........And what if volunteers then took them out into the community so they could give comfort to lonely people, or veterans, handicapped folks or seniors who can't have a dog anymore.......Wouldn't that be cool?'
At Frankie and Andys Place, we didn't just dream about it, or talk about it, we did it! Today, here we are, 18 months on, with a successful rescue that not only saves lives, but also mends hearts and builds bridges in the community.
It couldn't have happened without a whole lot of love, support and help, and that's what it will take to get us to phase two of our mission.
What is phase two?
A larger building where we can not only house a whole bunch more dogs, but where the community can come and visit, no matter what their physical issues. We need to be wheelchair accessible, to have restroom facilities, a kitchen where we can cook on site for a much larger number of dogs, a place where we can groom the dogs so they can feel tiptop, and a much needed laundry room. We also need to employ a full time dedicated staff member to augment our wonderful volunteer force as we plan to take in around thirty more dogs, depending on size of course, if this appeal is successful.
At our fabulous Golf Day fundraiser at the wonderful Lake Lanier Islands Resort in Spring of this year, we raised just over $14,000 which helped us to hit our target to erect a smaller used prefabricated building on site, which we were revved up and ready to do until.....a very generous $20,000 donation from friend and local dog trainer Pat Mitchell appeared!
Pat bestowed this amazing gift in honor of her dearly departed sister Lindsay, who was a passionate dog lover and friend to all animals. Thanks to this amazing act of generosity, we now have the option to instead opt for a larger custom building exactly where and how we want it, that will tick all of our boxes...if we can raise enough money to do it right. The total amount required is $75,000, and we are already over halfway there!
Please, if you believe in what we are doing, and have a heart for senior dogs, then kindly help us to help more of them.
If you've never been to the cabin, or never been visited by one of our amazing sugar snouts, you will not be aware of the healing magic these dogs hold in their paws. Their huge hearts, their soft eyes, their loving nature.....have mended broken hearts, changed lives and opened up lines of communication in people who could previously not speak.
These dogs, and our selfless volunteers, work their magic day in, day out, both in the cabin and out in the community, and what a difference they are making!
Lets pull together to save more dogs, change more lives.....and create a little more love in the world!
