Walking on Eggshells, a human led documentary

Walking On Eggshells

(Included is a trailer to our
documentary)

One in four women and one in six men will find themselves in an abusive relationship in their lifetimes.

Because many people are not sure what an abusive relationship is, increasing awareness of coercive control is desperately needed. So much abuse happens behind closed doors, leaving sufferers isolated, confused and desperate.

Family and friends can be of crucial importance, especially if they better understand abuse and what resources are available.

The Project

• To create a documentary highlighting coercive control, to help more people recognise what is abuse.

• To help victims understand they are not to blame.

• There is hope.

• There is help.

• Understanding this subject has never been more critical.

The recent pandemic has seen a large spike in reported cases of domestic abuse. It is closer to home than we may think.

Who We Are?

Miriam is a photographer who specialised in conceptual art video-installations at art college. Her interviews with the five participants form the basis of this human led documentary.

Marc is a video editor and visual artist specialised in creating motion graphics for live music projection and video mapping events.

This documentary uses strong, arresting visuals and sound to bring home the destructive impact of coercive control and abuse.

Miriam, quite by chance, has made an alarming number of friends deeply affected by abusive relationships. Many agreed to contribute to a project which shines a light on the hidden trauma, in order to create a resource for those whose lives are devastated by intimate abuse.

Miriam met Marc whilst photographing a gig where he was working, mixing live visual projections at a local music venue in Faversham.

With their shared interest in media and art, they clicked straight away. Miriam felt she could trust Marc and confided in him that she had spent 14 years in a toxic relationship before thankfully escaping. In the years since, she had nurtured a growing desire to create something positive from this experience to help others learn to avoid or leave coercive relationships.

When she asked Marc if he would be interested in editing the documentary, he was happy to embrace the challenge that lay before them. With his experience as a visual storyteller and skills in audio visual arts, he felt they could work well together on this vitally important project. Marc became a committed ally, along with the anonymous participants who allowed us to record their deeply personal and traumatic stories, and their ultimate progress to freedom from coercive control.

We are looking to raise a budget of £2000.

How will the money be spent?

Until now, making this documentary has been a collaborative labour of love as we are passionate about this massively important topic.

But to complete this project, we need funding to pay for some of the professional resources needed to finish and launch this film properly.

With your help, the funds we raise will allow us to pay for the essential things we need. From equipment rental to film festival entries, marketing, venue hire, travel costs and post-production.

All donations - however small or large are hugely appreciated. If you feel inclined to share our page with others, we would be super grateful.

Please help us; two first time documentary film-makers, reach the widest possible audience - so we can do our amazing participants justice and help this vital information reach the widest possible audience!

We have wind in our sails in the form of support from several charities and organisations working with victims of abuse, but now we need funds - please please give what you can and help keep more family and friends and the wider community safe from toxic relationships.

Thank you for your generosity and support.
