Cammino nel buio per dare luce

Nella notte del 13 giugno camminerò 30 km per le strade di Berlino, al buio.

Nessuna scorciatoia. Solo un passo dopo l'altro, per ore, in una città che non dorme mai.

Ho scelto di farlo perché il buio ha un significato molto diverso per 130 persone in Italia, in questo momento. Sono non vedenti. Aspettano — alcuni da anni — un cane guida che restituisca loro ciò che la maggior parte di noi dà per scontato: uscire di casa da soli.

Il Servizio Cani Guida dei Lions addestra e consegna cani guida gratuitamente dal 1959. Oltre 2.300 cani sono stati affidati a persone cieche in tutta Italia. Ognuno costa circa €25.000 tra allevamento, addestramento e cure veterinarie. Ognuno cambia una vita.

Sono membro del Lions Club Milano Loggia dei Mercanti. Questa marcia è il mio contributo a una missione che è sempre stata al centro di ciò che i Lions fanno: servire chi ne ha più bisogno.

Ogni euro che doni va direttamente al Centro Addestramento di Limbiate — uno dei più avanzati d'Europa.

Non devi camminare 30 km. Devi solo decidere che questa causa vale qualcosa.

On the night of June 13th, I will walk 30 km through Berlin in complete darkness.

No lights. No shortcuts. Just one foot in front of the other, for hours, through the streets of a city that never sleeps.

I chose to do this because darkness means something very different to 130 people in Italy right now. They are blind. They are waiting — some for years — for a guide dog that will give them back what most of us take for granted: the ability to leave home alone.

The Lions Guide Dogs Service has been training and delivering guide dogs completely free of charge since 1959. Over 2,300 dogs have been placed with blind people across Italy. Each one costs around €25,000 to breed, train and care for. Each one changes a life.

I am a member of Lions Club Milano Loggia dei Mercanti. This walk is my contribution to a mission that has always been at the heart of what Lions do: serve those who need it most.

Every euro you donate goes directly to the Lions Guide Dogs Training Centre in Limbiate — one of the most advanced in Europe.

You don't need to walk 30 km. You just need to decide that this matters.
