Jamie’s Story

Jamie is a 14-year-old cheeky chappy who lives with cerebral palsy. He’s full of character and loves spending time with his friends and family, but over the past few years, we’ve faced ongoing challenges trying to secure a suitable wheelchair for him through NHS wheelchair services.

As Jamie grows, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to meet his needs with a manual wheelchair. While he can self-propel for very short distances, it simply isn’t sustainable for longer periods. On top of this, the wheelchairs provided are often not fit for purpose, leading to frequent breakdowns and the need for engineer callouts.

Unfortunately, Jamie doesn’t meet the NHS criteria for a powered wheelchair, despite how much it would transform his independence, comfort, and ability to get around. A motorised chair would give Jamie the freedom to move more easily, enjoy days out, and spend quality time with those around him.

That’s why his incredible carers at Rosemont have kindly organised a sponsored walk to help raise funds towards a motorised wheelchair for Jamie. The Rosemont Care Team will be walking 9 miles from Reculver Castle to Margate Beach on Saturday 11th July 2026. As a family, we are eternally grateful for their kindness, support, and dedication.
