On the 28th of May, myself and my friends have planned to do a 10km wall with dogs from the shelter to raise as much money as possible  for Gouves animal shelter for something that is close to me, Leishmania.  Leishmania untreated and unnoticed can affect a dog significantly but it doesn’t mean the dogs life is over. If we do blood tests early on, we can start treatment straight away. But it’s very expensive to do so for every dog that we receive. Untreated and unnoticed can lead to the death of the dog within 12 months. We currently had 3 dogs in the last week that went unnoticed with leishmania, but luckily we caught them early. So I want to give every dog in the shelter a chance to survive this.

A quick story about the dog pictured above. Lady, she was one of the first dogs I took in, in Crete. She was found close to death and pregnant. And positive for leishmania. We looked after her until she was back to health and we found a forever home for her. Which so happened to be two of my amazing friends from England. And becoming healthy and part of their beautiful family. She arrived with them 6 years ago!! Just showing that with the right care and treatment and of course love. A dog with leishmania can live a very happy life ❤️

With the current circumstances, with no tourism, the shelters donations have dropped and currently the shelter had lots of amazing volunteers helping to rebuild. Costing the shelter a great deal of money, but to make the life’s of the dogs and cats much better, with more freedom before we can move them to their forever homes. But we still need money for the day to day running of the shelter which we are lacking in.

I’m asking you to just donate whatever you can, Honestly every euro counts, so we can test and treat the dogs early on, giving them the chance to find a home like Lady, and live a full loving life. ❤️
