I'm sure that you have done so because, like me, you are a supporter of Heartstone Sanctuary, the only cow (and home to other animals) sanctuary that currently exists in Ireland. And you are likely already aware of their back story, their ongoing struggle to remain the sole beacon of hope there for them. The seemingly never ending nightmare of their situation, the amount of obstacles constantly piling on top of one another, and spiralling out of control, attempting to derail any further chance of survival. Heartstone's existence means a great deal to me, their combination of ethics, compassion and awareness is unique and rare to find in the world, let alone in just one country. But the very fact they stand alone should never mean they are left to remain alone.
The difficulties of their ongoing situation has inspired, and compelled me to embark on my third walking fundraiser for them, and this will be the toughest one yet, one which take a considerable amount of time and effort on my behalf. Ultimately, it is one I am happy to participate in knowing I have the capability and capacity to help them, in some small way, back on their feet, and hopefully assist them back towards the light, towards a brighter future - the future they all deserve. But, all of this won't mean very much at all unless I have the support of each and every one of you walking alongside me, however you choose to do so.
I have come up with a provisional figure to begin with, because you have to start somewhere. But the truth is that these guys need so much help and support in every way, both immediately and the longer term, and this may be the only chance I have left to do this for them - so this has to count for something substantial, everything counts!
The last time I walked for Heartstone in 2023, I successfully walked 1,000,000 steps (the equivalent of 426 miles) in a month. According to Google, the combined distance from my home in East Hertfordshire (UK) to Heartstone's new location in Co. Cavan is roughly 436 miles.
So, of course that will be my target goal to reach in one month - imagine covering slightly more than 14 miles on foot every day and you get the general idea. I've decided to begin this journey on Boxing Day, which is Friday 26th December and then finishing at the end of Monday 26th January 2026.
But wait, there's a potential plot twist! When I considered the distance I was to cover, a certain song instantly entered my consciousness, what if I "walk 500 miles"?...
So, here's my proposition - if I've reached the 436 mile target, and we reach the initial target, we will unlock a new level and target where I continue until the end of Sunday 1st February in order to reach that 500 milestone, and together we can potentially raise even more for them!
