Brooklyn to Harlem Walk for Ben Miller - May 9
Donation protected
UPDATE: Feeling good in the neighborhood after 15 miles on foot Sunday! Got an extra boost when my family showed up at Mile 12 and finished the route with me. THANK YOU all for the donations that keep coming in. We are $1000 over goal and I'm keeping the page up until June 4.

Hello!
My friend Ben Miller, son of Ruth Bond and Seth Miller turns 17 this month. To celebrate him, I'm walking 15 miles from my home in Brooklyn to his mother's childhood home north of Harlem, NY. This is a "do-it-yourself" fundraiser: party of one.
Many of you know that Ben was born with a genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome which causes developmental delays and challenges with speech and balance. Kids with Angelmans also smile, laugh frequently and have happy, excitable personalities - which is what makes Ben such a joy to be around.
My goal is to raise $1,700 to offset the cost of a NovaChat10, a $4,000 talking device that will help Ben communicate with his parents, siblings, schoolmates, teachers and caregivers. As with many devices and services for people with special needs, they are vital to the person, but only partially covered through medical insurance.
As background, I know Ben through his father Seth, my lifelong friend from Lawrence School, Brookline High, Colorado College and beyond. We've always had each other's back and the friendship has only grown stronger since we each married and had kids. Luckily the two families got a little time together on the Vineyard this past summer, where the picture of Ben and I was taken.
Please contribute to this effort if you can. Or send good vibes my way on Sunday, May 9th as I walk across two boroughs of New York City.
Warmly, in difficult times,
Julie Slotnik Sturm
