Walking 20 Miles to Break Down Barriers

This June, I’m proud to be taking part in a 20-mile walk with the rest of the Bidwells Project Management team to raise money for an incredible local charity, Cambridge Science Centre (CSC).

Our route will take us from Babraham Research Campus, looping through Cambridge Science Park (with a stop at CSC), and finishing at Bidwell House, passing several projects we’ve been involved in along the way.

Why are we doing this?

At Cambridge Science Centre, the mission is simple but powerful: to make high quality STEM education available - science, technology, engineering, and maths – regardless of their background, education, and opportunities.

CSC is passionate about opening doors for the under-privileged young people, removing the social, economic, and geographical barriers that often prevent them engaging with science, technology, engineering, and maths. Through hands-on experiences and community programmes, they spark curiosity, confidence, and ambition for our future generations. Their work is already making a real impact, having reached over 500,000 young people, families, and schools across the East of England.

But there’s still more to do. Too many young people grow up feeling that STEM isn’t “for them” and the opportunities are not presented to them; CSC is changing that narrative by showing that education, innovation and opportunities belong to everyone!

CSC have a number of programmes to support young people developing this inquisitiveness, some of which directly relate to the industry that we operate in. The money raised will support delivery of these programmes, including: ‘Building a Better Future’ (a focus on the Built Environment), ‘Your Smart World’ (a deep dive into all things digital technology and AI) and a focus on Life Sciences.

Together, with these donations, we are investing in our future and supporting the future of the industry by implementing this knowledge from a young age, ensuring this is accessible to everyone despite their background.

If you’re able to support, any donation would be hugely appreciated.
