Walker's Fight Against Fanconi Anemia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Walker & recently I turned 3 years old. If you were to spend even a minute with me, I would be playing dinosaurs with you. Teaching you what an Ankylosaurus is vs my favorite, the Triceratop. I was so excited to finally get to begin pre-school this next year but everything changed on May 9th. After 6 months of tests including things like weekly labs, CTs and 3 Bone Marrow biopsies, they diagnosed me with Fanconi Anemia. I know, my family had never heard of this either. It's a genetic disease. On average, only 30 are diagnosed in the whole US a year. So this meant instead of school or going to the park, I have to do all I can to avoid getting sick or injured because I dont have my bone marrow working properly to protect me. My disease is causing my bone marrow to fail. So now I see my doctors several times a week, whether it is my Oncologists or my Transplant team. That's right, transplant. I need new bone marrow. Did I mention that I am a big brother? My brother's name is Easton, he's 10 months old and he is about to save my life. There was a 75% chance that he would have this same genetic disease, but instead he's healthy and better yet, Easton is my perfect match. I only wish that was the happy ending to my story, but unfortunately I still will have a long road ahead of me for the rest of my life. Apart from my bone marrow failing, Fanconi Anemia causes head and neck tumors and Leukemia to name a few of my health challenges. So my doctors are doing everything possible to help me fight my disease and give me a longer life. I will be getting admitted into the hospital on July 26th and will begin my Chemo to prepare my body for my brother's bone marrow. I will be there for a month and wont be allowed to see anyone other than my parents, one at a time. Meanwhile, there's Easton, he is so brave and doing more than he will ever know. I know he's going to be scared too and I couldnt have asked for a better brother. But we still need help. We need treatments, we need the help that will allow my parents to take the time off needed to be there for the both of us. We need to prepare our house for me to come home, which means it needs to be as safe as it was back at my hospital room. I have to be protected from infections and catching anything that could be detrimental for the first year post transplant. I want to live a long life. I want to be able to do what other kids my age are able to do. I am not my disease, but I am now in the fight of my life for my life. Please help donate and help us to make our hard times a little less difficult. Your help will make a difference. Thank you.
