In 2013 my Dad was diagnosed with Motor Neurons Disease (ALS). The diagnosis was a shock to not only him but to all of our family and friends. We all watched the man we loved succumb to this cruel disease. He lost his battle with the MND in 2015 after suffering from the illness for just over 15 months, during this time my Mum took on the role of his sole carer, I was only 11 when I lost my Dad, he was 53.
Throughout those 15 months I witnessed and experienced first hand the ways in which this disease affects not only on the person diagnosed, but the major impact it has on the family and friends of those whose loved one has been affected. Now more than ever it seems, too many young lives are being cut short by MND.
This is why for the month of June I am going to be walking in hopes of raising money to help the thousands of Australian families living with Motor Neuron’s everyday. All funds raised will be donated to FightMND, a foundation that aims to raise awareness and funds for research into finding a cure for Motor Neurones Disease in the hopes that one day we can live in a world that is free from MND.
Throughout the whole month I will be documenting my journey on all of my social media platforms and I would love for you all to follow me along the way! Any donations will be greatly appreciated, and no contribution is too small! My hope is to raise money for this incredible foundation and those who spend their lives dedicated to finding a cure!
