Walk with Lizzy

Lizzy was born early at 31 weeks due to an undetected heart condition (SVT) and since day one she has been a fighter, I remember the doctors and nurses commenting on her fight in the NICU and her pulling out her NG tube because she was ready to eat on her own. Around 10 months old the doctor ordered an MRI of Lizzy’s brain due to concerns with her movement, The hardest day of my life was the day that Lizzy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplegia, my world fell apart in the moment but as I am crying my eyes out thinking about all the things my child may never get to do, Lizzy looks up at me with the biggest smile on her face and touches my face as if she was saying “we got this mom”. 

Since that day it has been a journey Lizzy has shown me how to have strength and to be a fighter, through all her physical therapy and doctors’ appointments she has a smile and such joy for life. She continues to push forward, she has shown the want and the will to walk but her body is at a place that just won’t let her move forward.

We are on a path for Lizzy to have Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) in order to help her walk. SDR surgery is a treatment for Cerebral Palsy and helps resolve some of the spasticity (tightness) in her legs which in turn would help her mobility. Unfortunately insurance does not cover everything and after the surgery Lizzy will be required to go to physical therapy 5 times a week for months with the hospital stay and months of physical therapy ahead of us my husband and I will be required to miss a lot of time at work, any assistance you could provide to help with the medical expenses to help Lizzy walk would be greatly appreciated.
