This is Ashley Sookiayak. She is a very beautiful young lady with such a kind and humble heart! She is only 25 years old, has her life ahead of her, and has so many dreams and goals that she still wants to accomplish. Recently, she learned that her life would be changed forever. She learned that she has stomach cancer. This type of cancer requires very aggressive treatment, which can only be given in a much larger hospital setting. A setting that has the potential equipment along with experienced medical professionals in order to carry out her treatment effectively. Her family, along with the support of our community, are trying hard to get the help and support that she needs. Right now, she is alone. She travels today to Seattle and has no one at her side right now because her family doesn’t have the proper funds yet to make the travel arrangements. This family is a very close and tight-knit family that has such caring and loving hearts. Ashley’s mother works at the school as a cook, and her father works for the airport transportation system. He is also a volunteer search and rescue person for our community and has put forth so many hours and days into helping our families when needed for search or emergency rescue efforts. They hunt and gather native foods every spring and fall. They do this as a family. Ashley needs our support. Cancer is a serious disease, and I’m grateful that she is getting the treatment that she needs medically. She just needs support emotionally, mentally, and physically until she beats this cancer!
