Walk on sweet Dixie!
Donation protected
Hi, this is Jeremy Maness and I'm creating a fundraiser for my mother Dixie Maness. For those of you who don't know, she is undergoing a many staged healing process to heal both of her broken femurs. Dixie took a fall in the bathroom, passed out, and when she came to, screamed out in agony and fear as she seemed to be paralyzed. After 911 helped get her to the hospital it was quickly diagnosed she would need reconstructive surgery and 4-6 months of hospitalization and stay in a rehabilitation center to provide the amount of care and therapy that would possibly let her walk again.
It was a very real possibility that walking wouldn't be in the picture but here we are 2 months later and Dixie is working 'blood, sweat, and tears' hard to achieve a few steps at a time with a walker. We are supremely grateful for how she is progressing and all of this seemed like the sum of all concerns until her Medicare insurance informed us her copay for such a long stay would not be fully covered. It turns out we'll be responsible for a little over $3,000.00 a month to finish the process we've started. It looks like her stay will be at least 5 months. Every donated dollar will be going to this cost. As we've reached a point of maxing out all our credit cards, I must find myself here humbly asking for any help you can provide. All of you who know Dixie can attest to her character. If you knew her during her 30 year career in the schools where she built up the gold standard of what a school library should be, a lot of times with her own time and money, you know what kind of lady she is. She was part of every philanthropic effort possible, including the Relay for Life cancer benefit, Locks of Love, and to this day keeps an open door for those in need.
As her family, we wish we could provide the funds she needs now without calling on you all but the reality is we cannot. Many of you have blessed us with a lot of visits, prayers, and spirit lifting. We can't thank you enough for this. If you can help by donating to this fundraiser we will be eternally grateful. I assure you the funds would not be wasted. She is a shining star of a student when it comes to doing her physical therapy every day. The only way she can continue the daily sessions is to stay in the rehabilitation center, so please join us in helping our beloved Dixie get back on her feet, quite literally. Thank you for reading this and may these words find you in good health and spirits.
