Walk Into Spring for Wrexham Miners Rescue
THE FUNDRAISER
Hi!
I'm raising money for Wrexham Miners Project, a charity that resonates with me due to its commitment to mining heritage - my Taid was a miner - but also because of the importance the charity places on bringing people, from all walks of life, together in the pursuit of creative expression and all the benefits that brings.
Between Thursday 8th February and Sunday 31st March 2024, I will be walking 266 miles, a mile for each victim of the Gresford Disaster.
Whilst the walking starts in Winter, the finish day of Sunday 31st March sees the return of the light nights and, hence, Walk Into Spring.
This will involve 53 consecutive walks with no rest days, walking 5 miles each day, generally between 8pm and 9.30pm, at the end of my working day, irrespective of the weather conditions. I'll be taking the same route each day from the Gresford Memorial Wheel in Pandy to the Miners Rescue Project near the Racecourse, and back again.
I have set an initial target of £266, hoping that I can at least raise £1 for every victim of the Disaster and for every mile I walk.
The money from this fundraiser will go directly to the Wrexham Miners Project whose Restoration Project not only seeks to secure the future of the building but also provide a new coal mining museum, an arts gallery and modern spaces for volunteers to expand their current core activities.
ABOUT ME
My name's Andy from Pandy, Wrexham and those of a particular vintage will appreciate how unfortunate that is.
I'm perhaps better known as the guy who mocks up film posters and album covers on Twitter (X) (@iconic_ironic_). I've no idea how on earth I found myself in that niche!
In the real world, I'm married with two children and I teach in alternative provision settings with students who are unable to attend mainstream school due to mental health issues and/or exclusion. I grew up in Wrexham with my family coming from the Moss/Pentre Broughton area of the town. I've been supporting Wrexham since the age of 6 when my Uncle sat me in the rickety old Mold Road Stand to watch Wrexham beat Blackburn Rovers with a Steve Buxton winner in 1978. I'm currently a season-ticket holder in the Wrexham Lager Stand.
I WILL BE PROVIDING DAILY UPDATES ON MY PROGRESS ON TWITTER (X)
